Human Rights Watch (“HRWâ€ÂÂ) is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Associate in its Tokyo Office.
Description: The Associate will be based in HRW’s Tokyo office and will provide critical administrative and clerical assistance including, but not limited to, drafting, editing and translating correspondence, HRW materials and other documents and responding to inquires in both English and Japanese; maintaining extensive files, contact lists and databases; maintaining communication among HRW's New York headquarters and international offices; retrieving and responding to requests for information; preparing, formatting and distributing documents such as press releases, reports, tables, charts, briefing papers, op‑eds, publications and web content; scheduling, preparing for and taking minutes at meetings; assisting with fundraising efforts; assisting with Tokyo Committee matters; assisting with special events; liaising with local and international NGO partners; assisting with media outreach; assisting with research, electronic clipping, wires and translations; assisting with travel arrangements and follow-up; recruiting and coordinating interns; recording departmental finances; word processing; photocopying; filing; faxing; answering phones; processing incoming mail; and other assigned tasks.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will be self‑motivated, extremely well-organized, collegial and able to function under pressure and handle numerous tasks simultaneously. He or she must be able to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team. The candidate must be fluent in written and oral English and Japanese. Strong interest in international human rights as well as international relations is highly desirable. The candidate must have solid office/administration experience, demonstrated organizational skills and excellent computer skills (including Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, databases and the Internet). Applicants for this position must possess current Japanese work authorization valid for a minimum of two years from start date.
