(administrative – not legal – position)

Asia Division

(Tokyo Office)

Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Associate in its Tokyo Office.



Description: The Associate will be based in HRW’s Tokyo office and will provide critical administrative and clerical assistance including, but not limited to, drafting, editing and translating correspondence, HRW materials and other documents and responding to inquires in both English and Japanese; maintaining extensive files, contact lists and databases; maintaining communication among HRW's New York headquarters and international offices; retrieving and responding to requests for information; preparing, formatting and distributing documents such as press releases, reports, tables, charts, briefing papers, op‑eds, publications and web content; scheduling, preparing for and taking minutes at meetings; assisting with fundraising efforts; assisting with Tokyo Committee matters; assisting with special events; liaising with local and international NGO partners; assisting with media outreach; assisting with research, electronic clipping, wires and translations; assisting with travel arrangements and follow-up; recruiting and coordinating interns; recording departmental finances; word processing; photocopying; filing; faxing; answering phones; processing incoming mail; and other assigned tasks.



Qualifications: The successful candidate will be self‑motivated, extremely well-organized, collegial and able to function under pressure and handle numerous tasks simultaneously. He or she must be able to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team. The candidate must be fluent in written and oral English and Japanese. Strong interest in international human rights as well as international relations is highly desirable. The candidate must have solid office/administration experience, demonstrated organizational skills and excellent computer skills (including Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, databases and the Internet). Applicants for this position must possess current Japanese work authorization valid for a minimum of two years from start date.

On peut en effet, alors je demanderais a un gentil modo de modifier le titre en "Offre de job" et barrer le "en ONG".

:: Job Description ::
As Event Coordinator and Social Media Marketer your job's purpose is twofold: 1) Plan and organize each event (excluding the menu) in exacting detail, and 2) Market GenkiCook.com through social media channels with the goal of securing future guest bookings and growing the business. The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator, comfortable negotiating with agencies in and outside of Japan, publishers, PR firms, marketing departments, various managers and other high-profile individuals.
These events will be hosted at a permanent venue. The successful applicant will not have to concern him or herself with this aspect of event coordination (i.e. venue-related bookings and logistics).
The hiring process will be swift and lead time short. The candidate should be prepared to hit the ground running.
For the right candidate this promises to be an exciting, fun and challenging position with long-term potential.

:: Main Responsibilities ::
• Contacting and booking special guests; securing of event attendees
• Contacting media channels and attracting press attention
• Managing scheduling, and maintaining close contact with GenkiCook.com's owner and head cook
• Social and private secretary for the owner and head cook
• Creating content for the GenkiCook.com homepage and coordinating website design
• Creating social media profiles on Mixi and Facebook and keeping them up-to-date

• Basic digital photography skills
• Must live within one-hour commute of Tennozu Isle Station (Rinkai Line, Tokyo Monorail) or Shinagawa Station (Keihin-T?hoku, Keiky?, T?kaid?, Yamanote, Yokosuka?S?bu [Rapid] Lines)
Compensation depends on experience. Hours are flexible, but the successful candidate can expect night and weekend work, with mid-week mornings free. References required.
